The first Netherlands feature on Typotrip brought back from a stopover in Amsterdam.
Sjaak might actually mean something but until someone enlightens me about the meaning
I’ll assume it’s just a funny name for a boat.
Is it odd kerning and stains or does it say “S.J.AAk”?

Sjaak is a man’s name. Not used that much anymore. but it has become an expression too. De Sjaak zijn = to be the Sjaak. something like being a loser.
It is also common to use if you don’t know someones name. hey Sjaak (Sjakie). Kinda everybody’s name.
I think it is charlie in english. ‘Charlie and the chocalate factory’ is in dutch: ‘Sjakie en de chocoladefabriek’

Inspired by your comment I looked it up on behindthename.com and found Sjaak to be a “pet form of Jacob”.

On the other hand:
the end part of this name ‘aak’ is the name for a type of inland vessel;
I am afraid this ship is not as large as the real ‘aak’.
When the initials of the owner are SJ it might be a kind of explanation.
Apart of the odd kerning we also see the wrong, but in handpainting, drawing or writing often appearing way of mixing upper and lower case

Indeed, S.J. Aak would make for a consistent pun. As far as the size is concerned I find an ‘aspiring’ attitude in boat names not uncommon.
